Weekend Update for July 5, 2008

July 9th, 2008 Posted in News

Work done on UP 428:

Matt, Vince, and Collin reassembled the steam dome piping in preparation for another hydro test next week. Stu and Bill worked on rewiring the 428’s marker lights. The lights are are now remounted to the front of the smokebox. It’s starting to look more and more like a locomotive again! Matt and Brian removed the water supply valve and hose assembly from underneath the tender (fireman’s side). It will be cleaned, primed, painted, and re-installed. The engineer’s side is already done.

Work done to Frisco 1630:

Bill and Stu placed one of the crown brasses on the Bullard Turret Lathe. Bruce then set-up the lathe and began machining the crown brass.

Miscellaneous work done in and around the Steam Shop:

Vince machined one end of a brake hanger that the Car Department had sent over to be refurbished. Matt, Vince, Collin, and Brian reinstalled the cylinder covers that were painted for the CB&Q 637.

There will be a shop tour, for the general public, given next Saturday. It will run throughout the day.
