Weekend Update for May 31, 2008
June 5th, 2008 Posted in NewsWork done on the Frisco 1630:
Bob needle-chipped the locomotives frame, on the fireman’s side, near the pedestal. Stu, Bill, Rick, Tom, and Bob drilled and tapped a two inch hole in the center of the bracket that Bruce will use to turn the new crown brasses for 1630.
Work done on the UP 428:
Terry located and drilled holes, for the mounting stanchions for the engineer’s side hand railing. Meanwhile, Rick and JD drilled holes and mounted stanchions for the fireman’s side hand railing. They also cut-off the five bolts on the air compressor bracket, to allow mounting of the compressor.
Stu and Bill hard wired and reconnected the pump, and the rest of the plumbing, for the hydro valve matrix (pool heater) required to pressure test the 428.
Work done to the Shay:
Jason and Dan drilled and tapped the staybolt hole, on the rear tube sheet, which was welded by Lenny (the master manipulator of molten metal). JD painted the first coat, of fresh paint, to the inside of the Shay’s cab. Mike painted numerous parts, for the coupler, on the front of the Shay. Rick and a new volunteer, along with his two sons, worked on the never ending process of cleaning-off more grease and grime from the Shay. They then primed and painted more parts of the frame and undercarriage.
Nigel adjusted the Flanger and then proceeded to carry out a test bend, of a scrap sheet of metal, to practice for the upcoming new tube sheet bend.
